A Comprehensive Guide to Past Continuous Tense
Hello Students! Today we will learn the Past Continuous Tense. This tense is used to describe actions that were ongoing or continuing at a specific time in the past.
Identification and Basic Rules (Past Continuous के नियम)
हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में "रहा था", "रही थी", "रहे थे" आता है।
* Helping Verbs: इसमें Was और Were का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
* Was: I और सभी Singular Subjects (He, She, It, Name) के साथ।
* Were: सभी Plural Subjects (We, You, They) के साथ।
* Main Verb: क्रिया की 1st Form में -ing जोड़ा जाता है (जैसे: Eat + ing = Eating)।
Simple (Affirmative) Sentences
Rule: Subject + Was/Were + Verb(ing) + Object.
* I was reading a story. — मैं एक कहानी पढ़ रहा था।
* She was singing a song. — वह एक गाना गा रही थी।
* They were playing football. — वे फुटबॉल खेल रहे थे।
* He was running on the road. — वह सड़क पर दौड़ रहा था।
* We were going to the market. — हम बाज़ार जा रहे थे।
* It was raining yesterday. — कल बारिश हो रही थी।
* Ram was eating food. — राम खाना खा रहा था।
* You were watching TV. — तुम टीवी देख रहे थे।
* Birds were flying in the sky. — पक्षी आसमान में उड़ रहे थे।
* My mother was cooking in the kitchen. — मेरी माँ रसोई में खाना बना रही थीं।
* The children were making a noise. — बच्चे शोर मचा रहे थे।
* The sun was shining brightly. — सूरज तेज़ चमक रहा था।
* I was drinking milk. — मैं दूध पी रहा था।
* They were sitting on the bench. — वे बेंच पर बैठे थे (बैठ रहे थे)।
* We were learning English. — हम अंग्रेज़ी सीख रहे थे।
* He was driving a bus. — वह बस चला रहा था।
* She was washing the plates. — वह प्लेटें धो रही थी।
* You were telling a story. — तुम एक कहानी सुना रहे थे।
* The fan was moving slowly. — पंखा धीरे चल रहा था।
* I was writing in my notebook. — मैं अपनी नोटबुक में लिख रहा था।
Negative Sentences
Rule: Subject + Was/Were + Not + Verb(ing) + Object.
* I was not playing. — मैं नहीं खेल रहा था।
* She was not crying. — वह नहीं रो रही थी।
* They were not coming here. — वे यहाँ नहीं आ रहे थे।
* He was not doing his homework. — वह अपना होमवर्क नहीं कर रहा था।
* We were not going to the party. — हम पार्टी में नहीं जा रहे थे।
* It was not snowing. — बर्फ नहीं गिर रही थी।
* Ram was not sleeping in the room. — राम कमरे में नहीं सो रहा था।
* You were not listening to me. — तुम मुझे नहीं सुन रहे थे।
* The boys were not fighting. — लड़के नहीं लड़ रहे थे।
* My sister was not dancing. — मेरी बहन नहीं नाच रही थी।
* The dog was not barking. — कुत्ता नहीं भौंक रहा था।
* I was not wasting my time. — मैं अपना समय बर्बाद नहीं कर रहा था।
* They were not staying at a hotel. — वे होटल में नहीं रुक रहे थे।
* We were not watching a movie. — हम फिल्म नहीं देख रहे थे।
* He was not wearing a sweater. — उसने स्वेटर नहीं पहना था।
* She was not telling a lie. — वह झूठ नहीं बोल रही थी।
* You were not driving fast. — तुम तेज़ गाड़ी नहीं चला रहे थे।
* The machine was not working. — मशीन काम नहीं कर रही थी।
* I was not feeling happy. — मैं खुशी महसूस नहीं कर रहा था।
* They were not helping the teacher. — वे शिक्षक की मदद नहीं कर रहे थे।
Interrogative Type 1 Sentences (Starting with Was/Were)
Rule: Was/Were + Subject + Verb(ing) + Object + ?
* Was I dreaming? — क्या मैं सपना देख रहा था?
* Was she coming to your house? — क्या वह तुम्हारे घर आ रही थी?
* Were they playing cricket? — क्या वे क्रिकेट खेल रहे थे?
* Was he reading a magazine? — क्या वह एक पत्रिका पढ़ रहा था?
* Were we going in the right direction? — क्या हम सही दिशा में जा रहे थे?
