A Comprehensive Guide to Past Indefinite Tense
Hello Students! Today we will learn the Past Indefinite Tense (also known as Simple Past). This tense is used to talk about actions that were completed in the past at a specific time.
Identification and Basic Rules (Past Indefinite के नियम)
हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में "आ", "यी", "ये" (जैसे: गया, सोयी, आए) या "ता था", "ती थी", "ते थे" आता है।
* Affirmative Rule: इसमें सभी Subjects के साथ क्रिया की 2nd Form का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
* Negative & Interrogative Rule: इसमें Did का प्रयोग सहायक क्रिया (Helping Verb) के रूप में होता है।
* Special Note: जब वाक्य में Did आ जाता है, तो क्रिया की 1st Form का प्रयोग किया जाता है (2nd Form हट जाती है)।
Simple (Affirmative) Sentences
Rule: Subject + Verb (2nd Form) + Object.
* I wrote a letter yesterday. — मैंने कल एक पत्र लिखा।
* She sang a sweet song. — उसने एक मधुर गीत गाया।
* They played cricket in the morning. — वे सुबह क्रिकेट खेले।
* He spoke the truth. — उसने सच बोला।
* We went to school by bus. — हम बस से स्कूल गए।
* It rained heavily last night. — कल रात भारी बारिश हुई।
* Ram worked in a factory. — राम एक कारखाने में काम करता था।
* You helped my brother. — तुमने मेरे भाई की मदद की।
* Birds flew away. — पक्षी उड़ गए।
* My mother cooked delicious food. — मेरी माँ ने स्वादिष्ट खाना बनाया।
* The children loved the toys. — बच्चों को खिलौने पसंद आए।
* The sun rose at 6 AM. — सूरज सुबह 6 बजे उगा।
* I drank milk before sleeping. — मैंने सोने से पहले दूध पिया।
* They lived in Delhi ten years ago. — वे दस साल पहले दिल्ली में रहते थे।
* We learned a new lesson. — हमने एक नया पाठ सीखा।
* He read the whole book. — उसने पूरी किताब पढ़ी।
* She washed her clothes. — उसने अपने कपड़े धोए।
* You ran very fast in the race. — तुम दौड़ में बहुत तेज़ दौड़े।
* Mohan bought a new car. — मोहन ने एक नई कार खरीदी।
* I saw a lion in the forest. — मैंने जंगल में एक शेर देखा।
Negative Sentences
Rule: Subject + Did + Not + Verb (1st Form) + Object.
* I did not write a letter. — मैंने पत्र नहीं लिखा।
* She did not sing a song. — उसने गाना नहीं गाया।
* They did not play football. — वे फुटबॉल नहीं खेले।
* He did not tell a lie. — उसने झूठ नहीं बोला।
* We did not waste our time. — हमने अपना समय बर्बाद नहीं किया।
* It did not rain yesterday. — कल बारिश नहीं हुई।
* Ram did not smoke. — राम धूम्रपान नहीं करता था।
* You did not know my address. — तुम मेरा पता नहीं जानते थे।
* Birds did not fly today. — पक्षी आज नहीं उड़े।
* My sister did not like the gift. — मेरी बहन को उपहार पसंद नहीं आया।
* Cows did not eat the grass. — गायों ने घास नहीं खाई।
* The sun did not shine clearly. — सूरज साफ नहीं चमका।
* I did not watch TV last night. — मैंने कल रात टीवी नहीं देखा।
* They did not go to the party. — वे पार्टी में नहीं गए।
* We did not live there. — हम वहाँ नहीं रहते थे।
* He did not drive the car. — उसने कार नहीं चलाई।
* She did not come on time. — वह समय पर नहीं आई।
* You did not study hard for exams. — तुमने परीक्षाओं के लिए कड़ी मेहनत नहीं की।
* This machine did not work. — इस मशीन ने काम नहीं किया।
* I did not receive your call. — मुझे तुम्हारा फोन नहीं मिला।
Interrogative Type 1 Sentences (Starting with Did)
Rule: Did + Subject + Verb (1st Form) + Object + ?
* Did you write a letter? — क्या तुमने पत्र लिखा?
* Did she sing a song? — क्या उसने गाना गाया?
* Did they play hockey? — क्या वे हॉकी खेले?
* Did he speak English? — क्या उसने अंग्रेज़ी बोली?
* Did we know each other? — क्या हम एक-दूसरे को जानते थे?
* Did it rain in the evening? — क्या शाम को बारिश हुई?
* Did Ram go to the temple? — क्या राम मंदिर गया?
* Did you like the movie? — क्या तुम्हें फिल्म पसंद आई?
* Did birds build a nest? — क्या पक्षियों ने घोंसला बनाया?
* Did your father work in an office? — क्या तुम्हारे पिता ऑफिस में काम करते थे?
* Did the children make a noise? — क्या बच्चों ने शोर मचाया?
