A Comprehensive Guide to Past Perfect Tense
Hello Students! Today we will learn the Past Perfect Tense. This tense is used to describe an action that was completely finished before another action happened in the past, or before a specific point in time.
Identification and Basic Rules (Past Perfect के नियम)
हिंदी वाक्यों के अंत में "चुका था", "चुकी थी", "चुके थे" या "या था", "यी थी", "ये थे" आता है।
* Helping Verb: इसमें सभी Subjects (Singular और Plural) के साथ Had का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
* Main Verb: इसमें हमेशा क्रिया की 3rd Form (Past Participle) का प्रयोग होता है।
* Note: अक्सर इस Tense का प्रयोग तब होता है जब भूतकाल में दो काम हुए हों। जो काम पहले खत्म हुआ, उसके लिए Had + 3rd Form लगाते हैं।
Simple (Affirmative) Sentences
Rule: Subject + Had + Verb (3rd Form) + Object.
* I had finished my work. — मैंने अपना काम पूरा कर लिया था।
* She had already left. — वह पहले ही जा चुकी थी।
* They had played the match. — वे मैच खेल चुके थे।
* He had seen the Taj Mahal before. — उसने पहले ताजमहल देखा था।
* We had reached the station. — हम स्टेशन पहुँच चुके थे।
* It had rained before morning. — सुबह से पहले बारिश हो चुकी थी।
* Ram had written a letter. — राम एक पत्र लिख चुका था।
* You had told me about it. — तुमने मुझे इसके बारे में बताया था।
* The birds had flown away. — पक्षी उड़ चुके थे।
* My mother had cooked the food. — मेरी माँ खाना बना चुकी थीं।
* The children had slept early. — बच्चे जल्दी सो चुके थे।
* The sun had risen before I woke up. — मेरे जागने से पहले सूरज उग चुका था।
* I had taken my lunch. — मैं अपना दोपहर का भोजन कर चुका था।
* They had sold their old house. — उन्होंने अपना पुराना घर बेच दिया था।
* We had learned the lesson. — हमने पाठ सीख लिया था।
* He had lost his mobile. — उसने अपना मोबाइल खो दिया था।
* She had washed the clothes. — वह कपड़े धो चुकी थी।
* You had made a mistake. — तुमने एक गलती की थी।
* The patient had died before the doctor came. — डॉक्टर के आने से पहले मरीज़ मर चुका था।
* I had already seen that movie. — मैंने वह फिल्म पहले ही देख ली थी।
Negative Sentences
Rule: Subject + Had + Not + Verb (3rd Form) + Object.
* I had not seen him before. — मैंने उसे पहले नहीं देखा था।
* She had not cleaned the room. — उसने कमरा साफ नहीं किया था।
* They had not arrived yet. — वे अभी तक नहीं आए थे।
* He had not done his duty. — उसने अपना कर्तव्य पूरा नहीं किया था।
* We had not eaten anything. — हमने कुछ नहीं खाया था।
* It had not rained for days. — कई दिनों से बारिश नहीं हुई थी।
* Ram had not called me. — राम ने मुझे फोन नहीं किया था।
* You had not told the truth. — तुमने सच नहीं बोला था।
* The birds had not built the nest. — पक्षियों ने घोंसला नहीं बनाया था।
* My sister had not reached home. — मेरी बहन घर नहीं पहुँची थी।
* The dog had not bitten anyone. — कुत्ते ने किसी को नहीं काटा था।
* I had not received your letter. — मुझे तुम्हारा पत्र नहीं मिला था।
* They had not bought the car. — उन्होंने कार नहीं खरीदी थी।
* We had not forgotten you. — हम तुम्हें नहीं भूले थे।
* He had not given the keys. — उसने चाबियाँ नहीं दी थीं।
* She had not prepared the tea. — उसने चाय तैयार नहीं की थी।
* You had not invited them. — तुमने उन्हें आमंत्रित नहीं किया था।
* The bell had not rung yet. — घंटी अभी तक नहीं बजी थी।
* I had not spent the money. — मैंने पैसे खर्च नहीं किए थे।
* They had not finished the game. — उन्होंने खेल खत्म नहीं किया था।
Interrogative Type 1 Sentences (Starting with Had)
Rule: Had + Subject + Verb (3rd Form) + Object + ?
* Had you seen him? — क्या तुमने उसे देखा था?
* Had she cooked the food? — क्या उसने खाना बना लिया था?
* Had they reached the school? — क्या वे स्कूल पहुँच चुके थे?
* Had he told a lie? — क्या उसने झूठ बोला था?
* Had we met before? — क्या हम पहले मिले थे?
* Had it rained last night? — क्या कल रात बारिश हुई थी?
* Had Ram gone to the market? — क्या राम बाज़ार जा चुका था?
* Had you taken the medicine? — क्या तुमने दवा ले ली थी?
* Had the birds flown away? — क्या पक्षी उड़ चुके थे?
* Had your father come home? — क्या तुम्हारे पिता घर आ चुके थे?
* Had the children slept? — क्या बच्चे सो चुके थे?

Rule: Wh-word + Had + Subject + Verb (3rd Form) + Object + ?

* Where had they stayed? — वे कहाँ रुके थे?
* How had he solved the sum? — उसने सवाल कैसे हल किया था?
* When had we reached the party? — हम पार्टी में कब पहुँचे थे?
* What had the box contained? — बक्से में क्या था?
* Where had Ram hidden the money? — राम ने पैसे कहाँ छुपाए थे?
* Why had you laughed? — तुम क्यों हँसे थे?
* How many books had they read? — उन्होंने कितनी किताबें पढ़ी थीं?
* What had your mother said? — तुम्हारी माँ ने क्या कहा था?
* When had the sun set? — सूरज कब डूबा था?
* Which movie had you seen? — तुमने कौन सी फिल्म देखी थी?
* Why had it rained so much? — इतनी बारिश क्यों हुई थी?
* Where had they played? — वे कहाँ खेले थे?
* How had we won the prize? — हमने इनाम कैसे जीता था?
* What had she taught? — उसने क्या पढ़ाया था?
* Why had you come late? — तुम देर से क्यों आए थे?
* Where had we stayed last night? — हम कल रात कहाँ रुके थे?
* How had she prepared for exams? — उसने परीक्षाओं के लिए कैसे तैयारी की थी?
* Why had the dog barked? — कुत्ता क्यों भौंका था?
Interrogative Type 2 Negative Sentences
Rule: Wh-word + Had + Subject + Not + Verb (3rd Form) + Object + ?
* Why had you not written the letter? — तुमने पत्र क्यों नहीं लिखा था?
* Why had she not spoken to me? — उसने मुझसे बात क्यों नहीं की थी?
* What had they not understood? — उन्हें क्या समझ नहीं आया था?
